Space Medicine

I have an intense interest in deep space exploratory missions.  Human travel to other planets, such as Mars, will be one of the most historic and exciting events in the history of mankind.  It is not without significant peril, however.  I am interested in studying and designing procedures and devices to care for astronauts that may suffer musculoskeletal injuries while on a lunar or interplanetary mission to lessen these risks.  My current interests are:

  • fracture diagnosis in space

  • low profile, nonoperative fracture stabilization

  • surgical instrument design for long duration missions
